My skin has always been a part of my identity—but for years, it was also a source of frustration, confusion, and, at times, pain. As a black woman with melanin-rich skin, I experienced more than the occasional breakout or irritation. I faced ongoing challenges—inflammation, sensitivity, and persistent itchiness—and it often felt like nothing I tried, no product or medical test, could give me real answers.

Dermatologists prescribed creams and treatments, but they didn’t work for me. The products on store shelves weren’t made with my skin in mind—they left me feeling stripped, dull, and even more irritated.

But I refused to give up on myself.
